6 eco-friendly ways to make your office a little greener

It’s all well and good being green and recycling at home, but what of the office, the place where it’s often “somebody else’s issue”?

Well, the truth is, it’s all about baby steps, and we here at our company would be honoured to get you started with a few pointers.

The objects below will add some environmentally-friendly credentials to your office, and hopefully inspire your colleagues to go a little green as well. Take a look through and please let us know which ones work for you…and your office.

Really Useful 35 titre storage box.

The Recycled Range from Really Useful means you can recycle all types of post-consumer waste including waste plastic and batteries. Your office may recycle paper already but plastic and batteries are far more toxic when broken down.

Perpetual calendar

This unique and eco-conscious calendar is a design marvel by Gideon Dagan. Mark the month with the string-tethered, seemingly gravity-defying ball that suspends in mid-air. A second ball on the horizontal beam indicates the day. It can be placed on a desktop or mounted on a wall. Not only will it save your office paper a plenty, it also looks pretty cool too.

The ecobutton

One of our personal fav’s, the ecobutton is an illuminating USB device that acts as a reminder and a prompt for the user to press the ecobutton at every opportunity whenever the computer is going to be left idle. A PC switched on 8 hours a day engaging ecomode for 3 hours could save around £50 in electricity cost per year. If the PC is left on overnight the saving could be £100 or more – or the equivalent of 600kgs of CO2. Whether you save a lot or a little, you can be assured that by using ecobutton you will be making a difference.

Rechargeable batteries

This NiMH AA cell can be used like a normal battery and can be recharged simply by plugging into a USB port. They can be recharged up to 500 times so are not just an eco-friendly alternative to the standard alkaline battery but will save serious money in the long run. The USBCELL can save up to 7kg of CO2 and up to 3kg of toxic landfill waste in just 50 uses, and can be recharged at least 500 times.

I’m not a paper cup

If you’re not already getting your ‘commuter’, mid morning or takeaway coffee in your own mug, here’s a witty and eco-friendly alternative to all those unnecessary paper cups given out by coffee shops.

‘I am Not a Paper Cup’ is a reusable, double walled, thermal 350ml ceramic mug with a re-sealable silicon lid that’ll keep your coffee safe, and reduce your need for paper cups (which only end up being thrown away). Take a small step to reducing your carbon footprint, and alleviate any eco-guilt.

Staple-less Panda Stapler

Say goodbye to staples! They are horrible and fiddly, and very wasteful. Instead, green your office or school with a panda stapless stapler, or stapleless stapler, it cleverly stitches the paper together. Whatever you call it, we call it genius! It can secure up to 6 sheets at a time with this cute panda, just press his head!
